| Waterford Institute of Technology chooses Copperfasten’s Mail Firewall Appliance for their fight against SPAM | ||
| 15-December-2004 - Copperfasten Technologies; Ltd.
Waterford Institute of Technology has chosen Copperfasten’s Mail Firewall Appliance (MFA) to strengthen its defences against attack on their email, safeguard against viruses and eliminate spam. Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) has more than 11,000 users, is the sole provider of higher education in the southeast and the second largest Institute of Technology in the country. Therefore the ongoing management of Spam is vital from both an end-user and IT Administration point of view. The institute has a diverse group of users, staff and students across a wide range of locations and disciplines, so they require the ability to implement differing policies regarding the identification and management of spam down to the user level. Copperfasten’s MFA as well as permitting the use of different policies at both the domain and user level, offers a flexibility and scalability required by an organisation of this size and level of sophistication. Also, as the MFA is not priced based on a per user license, pricing reflects the email processing power provided in the MFA, thus for a large number of users as found at the Waterford Institute, the Copperfasten solution provides a very economical answer. The Copperfasten MFA is a powerful out of the box solution that eliminates unsolicited emails (Spam) and eradicates email-borne viruses, and comes ready to deploy with no software installation and little or no reconfiguration of existing network set-ups. All spam and anti-virus updates are fully automated and all administration is carried out via an easy-to-use web interface, thus keeping administrative overheads to a minimum. Copperfasten’s MFA removes upwards of 98% of Spam prior to delivery of mail to the mail servers. Any quarantined mail is then stored on the MFA. "When we initially looked at Spam is was clear that whatever Spam solution was to be implemented it had to meet with certain critical requirements, specifically fit quickly and easily into the Institutes existing infrastructure, be effective and allow roll out to a large number of users with varying ability and needs. The MFA has delivered on all these counts. Copperfasten’s MFA was installed and up and running in less than an hour, and our email was not noticeably disrupted during the installation process. The MFA was firstly installed on the network, configured and tested, and when ready to go live email was simply redirected to the MFA" , explained Aidan McGrath, Waterford Institutes IT Manager. " “The end-user interfaces are so simple in nature, all that was required with respect to end-user ‘training’ was an email explaining that a new system dealing with spam was being implemented and some basic instruction on how to use the quarantine function. Already the feedback has been tremendous from both staff and students with a significant reduction in the IT helpdesk activity in relation to Spam issues", he added."Spam wastes both staff and students time, which is reflected in further expense," commented, Ronan Kavanagh Copperfasten’s Sales and Marketing Manager. "Our MFA allows the management of Spam to be removed from the IT Helpdesk and transferred to the end-user level. Users can send all suspected spam mail to a quarantine facility thus removing spam from their inbox. Quarantine reports are generated automatically on a daily or weekly basis allowing users to check and retrieve suspect mail if they require. The time required to process legitimate mail from spam is practically eliminated", concluded Kavanagh. For more information contact Ronan Kavanagh Copperfasten on 091- 540054 or
